A player currently on the list might get cut during training camp, or sign a new long-term contract in the next few months.īut I thought it might be a fun exercise, while we’ve got a little down time before training camp starts in a week or so, to look into the crystal ball and predict what will happen with those 25 Redskins free agents, and how it could affect the salary cap going forward. The list is subject to change, obviously. OTC currently lists 25 Redskins players who are projected to be free agents in 2017. By clicking on the “Calculator” tab, you get to play GM for the entire Redskins roster (or any other team in the NFL).įor people who enjoy mock-drafting on the Fanspeak website, this allows you to get an earlier start on the off season by making free agent decisions on your own free agent players in your role as mock General Manager. If you’d like to take a look at the Redskins, for example, you can click here. One of the great features of OTC is the ability to look interactively at the salary cap position of every team in the NFL. As a fan, my primary interest is in the Redskins’ wins & losses on the field, but as a guy who spent many years running businesses for myself and others, and who made a living out of negotiating for much of my life, I am equally fascinated by the business of the NFL. OTC looks in-depth at player contracts, team-building, and front-office effectiveness. I realize that not many other people are as intrigued by the OTC website as I am, but I love it because it looks at the NFL as a business, and the players as assets of that business. Anyone who has read my comments on Hogs Haven over the past three years, has probably noticed that I am a fan of the website (OTC), which I often refer to as a source in my comments, and which I sometimes use to introduce topics for discussion in the Daily Slop or 5 o’clock club.
